BSHRA Best Paw Forward Event September 2017

Arrival at the forest and set-up camp.
Welcome meeting and introductions.
There will be a showing of the Great Alone about Lance Mackey and his life achievements.
Food: Gerry and his van will be at the venue early evening to provide food as required.
23rd September 2017
Alpha Foods has kindly sponsored our Championship season for the past few seasons and this will continue into the 2017/18 season. We are delighted that they will be in attendance over the weekend to talk to people about the Alpha range of products; they’ll have sample packs and maybe even some special weekend deals.
Food: Gerry and his van will be at the venue providing breakfasts as required after people have exercised their dogs.
PLEASE NOTE: outside of these times, the trail will be closed.
We will be opening a short trail (1.5-2.5 miles trail weather depending) in the morning to allow people to exercise their dogs (temperatures and weather permitting). We will run these in 2 groups to enable each group to marshal the other’s trail.

Please note: Anyone running dogs will be expected to pick up a duty in the group that they are not running a team in to allow everyone to exercise their dogs safely.
10:00-17.00pm – Either:
Canine First Aid (needs to be booked in advance at an additional cost of £30)
Those that have enlisted on the Fleximed Canine First Aid Course (for those you will have booked into it in advance through Liz Smith)
There will be an hour scheduled in for a dinner break which will give you an opportunity to check in on dogs. The course will be held outdoors in a marked out area weather permitting.

Those remaining are welcome to join in with our educational programme which is completely optional and will run as follows. For events in the marquee, please bring blankets/chairs, whatever you want to sit on.
Andrew Grisbrooke will run a workshop on Rig/Bike maintenance
Caroline Kisko will give a talk on running Siberian Huskies in Harness. This will be particularly useful to newcomers in the breed followed by a Q&A in the marquee.
Helen Lightfoot will run an introduction workshop/talk about the benefits of treating your dogs using McTimoney as a chiropractic treatment in the marquee.
Ruth Milner from Photizo will be talking about how using the Photizo as an alternative treatment, can help relieve pain, stimulate cells to repair and heal, reduce swelling and inflammation, and it can also stimulate the immune system in acute traumatic conditions in dogs. Photizo® Vetcare is effective in treating chronic pain and inflammatory conditions associated with arthritic conditions and other overuse type injuries. Followed by a Q&A.
Companion Dog Show judged by Sally Hart (Zawkkast) and organised by Louise Evans (Demoneira)

- Best brace (2 dogs)
- Best team (3 dogs)
- Best young handler (under 16)
£1 per entry with proceeds going to the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Entries will be taken on the Friday and Saturday before the show.
Rosettes for 1-5 placings and the Best In Show will win an informal photoshoot (with Louise) of the BIS and your favourite picture from the photoshoot will be turned into a canvas as a prize.
A talk by Chris Leyland
Chris has handled dogs for Rob and Louise Cooke (Shaytaan Siberian Huskies) at The Yukon Quest will give a presentation on his experiences in the marquee. Followed by a Q&A.
Eveline Koch (Vargevass) is the Winner of IFSS Long Distance World Championships for Nordic Breed & Best Dog Care Award in Finnmark 500 in 2015 and WSA European Champion Long Distance 2016.
Vargevass is a Scandinavian kennel of FCI Siberian Huskies. Established in 1965 by Karsten Grønås and was joined by Eveline Koch from the Netherlands in 2001. Their philosophy is to breed typical Siberian Huskies who are fit for function. Able to do the job they were intended for, as described in the breed standard. Performance and type matter. Again followed by a Q&A.
Buffet will be served in the marquee followed by an opportunity to mix with Chris and Eveline and enjoy a social evening of acoustic music by The Harvs and Karina and the Slaves featuring our very own Mark Busby.

Exercising dogs OUTSIDE OF THESE TIMES, THE TRAIL WILL BE CLOSED
We will be opening a short trail in the morning to allow people to exercise their dogs (temperatures and weather permitting) which we will run 2 groups to enable us to marshal the trail.
This will work in the same way as the Saturday runs.
Eveline Koch (Vargevass) will start undertaking the Confirmation Grading Assessment and Judging event (referring to the KC Breed Standard) in the outdoor ring area.
The criteria for entering these classes will be that the handler and the dogs entered for these classes will have to owned or have competed in last season’s BSHRA race series (and can be either KC registered or dog’s registered on the our welfare list).
Entry fee will be £5.00 for each dog/class entered and ideally a form/ schedule for entry will be distributed via a download on the website shortly.
Please bring your own chairs to sit around the ring and observe the Confirmation/Grading Assessment and Judging process.
Rosettes for this event will be supplied by Zara Wooliscroft/Show Rosettes.
Funds raised from this activity will be donated to the Dog’s Trust whom we have supported as an association in the past.
We will be making awards for Best Puppy, Best Dog, Best Bitch, Best Veteran, Best Opposite Sex and Best in Show (sponsored awards).
